The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is the UN agency mandated to protect refugees, forcibly displaced people and stateless persons. Established in 1950, UNHCR works in more than 130 countries to provide life-saving assistance, safeguard rights and support durable solutions, including voluntary repatriation, local integration and resettlement. In recent years, the agency has increasingly recognised the importance of financial inclusion in helping displaced populations build resilience, restore livelihoods and participate more fully in their host communities, working with governments, financial institutions and humanitarian partners to expand access to appropriate financial services.
