Gender Strategies in Investing: How European investment firms move from awareness to action

This report by the Esade Center for Social Impact investigates how European investment firms transition from awareness to action regarding gender strategies in investing, focusing on private markets. The study uses a qualitative case study approach with seven private market investment firms active in Europe, including AlbionVC, AlphaMundi Group Ltd, EQT, Global Social Impact Investments, NESST, and We Are Jane. It shares four interconnected gender strategies for investors, key motivations for adopting gender strategies, such as internalized belief in the business opportunity of diversity, enablers, including deep leadership, how gender strategies align with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda, and how a gender focus aims to improve the lives of women and girls through their investments. The report concludes that gender inequality is a systemic problem requiring systemic solutions beyond individual firm actions.
