The Gender Equity Assessment Rating (GEAR) is a gender lens rating tool developed by Kiva that measures how financial service providers (FSPs) are incorporating gender equity in their products, practices, and policies. It builds upon the insights gleaned from Kiva’s Gender Lens Investment (GLI) Landscape Study (2021). Although Kiva originally developed GEAR as a tool for FSPs, it can also be leveraged as a publicly available, standalone gender lens framework. GEAR is made up of four interrelated resources– 1) a survey, 2) country level data, 3) a weighted scoring system, and 4) this user manual– that are designed to be used in conjunction to interpret an FSP’s answers to the survey. All four resources are contained in the user manual.
